Video: Taylor Hicks jams with Carson James at WorkPlay.
Taylor Hicks beat the odds to not only make it as a musician, but also do it on the reality TV show, “American Idol.” In 2006, the Hoover singer won the title that season.
For his latest gig in Birmingham, he’s lending a hand to an up-and-comer named Carson James, shown at right.
While you may not have heard of the teenage Pelham guitarist, Hicks personally called James to open for him at WorkPlay Thursday night. James has had a whirlwind 2010, playing in marching band, cutting a CD and battling bone cancer. He has undergone chemotherapy for osteosarcoma stage 4, diagnosed in July.
The show starts at 8 p.m. Thursday at WorkPlay, 500 23rd St. S., Lakeview [map]. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online or at the door.
