Hoover’s Ross Bridge as “Best Community in America.”
A Hoover development is tops in the nation. The National Association of Home Builders picked Ross Bridge as the “Best Community in America” as part of its Best in American Living Awards Friday in Orlando [PDF].
The judges selected the area for taking “the decades-old ‘planned unit development resort community’ concept and infus(ing) it with the latest in traditional neighborhood development design, creating a walkable community with a unique sense of place and a vibrant community spirit.”
Named in the award were the developers, Birmingham’s Daniel Corp. and Fairfield’s USS Real Estate, along with Birmingham-based land planning agency Environmental Design Studio.
According to John Gunderson, senior vice president of residential development for Daniel Corp., Ross Bridge accounted for 2.5 percent of total new home sales after 2006, its first year, and today accounts for 15 percent of all new home sales in the Birmingham area.
“While this of course is an incredible honor for Daniel to be a part of, we believe this is an exceptional recognition for the city and the state and sincerely hope such an award elicits pride for all those who live here,” Gunderson said by e-mail.
The 1,700-acre development includes housing from priced at $170,000 to more than $1 million and the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa.
Ross Bridge beat several much larger competitors in the awards category.
