Alabama Butterbean Festival, greased pig contest

The Alabama Butterbean Festival in Pinson offers a greased pig contest as part
of its Labor Day weekend fun.

• The sixth annual Alabama Butterbean Festival offers 2 days of entertainment, activities and more in Pinson. Country, gospel and other musical acts will fill two stages throughout the event. Other diversions include the Mr. and Miss Butterbean Pageant, an antique car show, 5k race and 1-mile fun run, a butterbean and cornbread cooking contest and a greased pig contest. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church will have its Labor Day Festival, complete with arts and crafts, games, country store, silent auction, children’s activities and food. • Oak Mountain State Park will hold a Labor Day nature walk. • Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park will have the state’s largest Moon Pie eating contest. Cash prizes will be awarded in two categories: adult and children.
